CAMX Expo honors HPMI researchers

HPMI researchers were awarded top prizes and recognition at the 2015 CAMX – The Composites and Advanced Materials Expo in Dallas.

At the SAMPE University Research Symposium, two HPMI student researchers were awarded first place in their divisions and two more received honorable mention. Kenneth Veliky was awarded first place in the Masters division for his presentation “A Statistical Analysis of Effects of Test Methods on Spun Carbon Nanotube Yarn.” Khan Bui’s presentation “Achieving Super Alignment Degree of Carbon Nanotube Sheets (Buckypaper) via Different Mechanical Stretching Media” won first place in the undergraduate division.

At the PhD division, Jin Yan’s presentation “Impact of Ag Dopant in 3D Novel Photovoltaic Sensors for In-situ Structural Health Monitoring of Composite Materials” and Kunal Joshi’s “Damage Monitoring of Precracked Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened with CFRP composite" received Honorable Mention.

Also at the CAMX Expo, a technical paper by Dr. David Olawale, Divyesh Bhatka, Emily Hammel, Jin Yan, Donovan Carey, Dr. Tarik Dickens and Dr. Okenwa Okoli was selected as an Outstanding Paper Award winner for the Non Destructive Evaluation track. Their paper “Triboluminescent Composite with In-situ Impact Sensing Capability” was judged by the CAMX technical committee as a well written, interesting, and groundbreaking technical paper.
